Why can't I share my photo from my location?

If you see messages like “The aurora oval has passed” or “Aurora can rarely be spotted at your location,” it means the current conditions don’t support reliable aurora activity based on available data.

We work with space agencies to provide accurate, real-time aurora intensity readings. To maintain the quality and credibility of shared content, we only allow photo uploads when verified aurora activity is detected in your area.

Unfortunately, real-time data is limited in some regions, particularly parts of Canada and the United States. Since we rely on external data and are not a space agency ourselves, we choose to restrict uploads in areas with insufficient data to avoid inaccurate or misleading reports.

We appreciate your understanding as we continue working to expand coverage and improve the experience for all aurora hunters.
