How to share your aurora sighting photos in real time

Step 1: Download Hello Aurora and create an account
Download the Hello Aurora app for free on the App Store or Google Play Store and create an account.

Step 2: Click the “Eyes” Icon to report what you see
When you spot the Northern Lights, tap the eyes icon 👁️ in the app.
Select the aurora intensity level:

  • Weak – visible only through a camera lens
  • Medium – faintly visible to the naked eye
  • Strong – bright and clearly visible to the naked eye

Step 3: Upload a Photo
Upload photo from your gallery, then tap “Share Now.”
Your real-time aurora sighting moment will instantly appear on the map and notify other aurora chasers around the world.

A: Of course. You can always delete your photos on our app. On the right hand side on the 3 dots.

A: No. To keep every Aurora Moment authentic and focused on real-time aurora sightings, you can only upload a photo when the Northern Lights are actually visible. Our system automatically verifies aurora activity and only allows sharing when conditions are active. This ensures that every photo you see in the app reflects a genuine, live aurora experience. To maintain real-time accuracy, photos can only be shared if they are taken within the past hour. This helps keep the Hello Aurora community reliable, exciting, and true to what’s happening in the sky right now.
